Curriculum
The French program is based on a language-learning theory that a student is only able to read or write what he or she can first say, therefore an emphasis is placed on oral communication. This is the current philosophy of the DOEECD.
Our three outcomes for each grade focus on language development in speaking, reading and writing.
Assessment
Students will be assessed mainly on their ability to communicate orally, but to a lesser extent through reading and writing tasks. Assessment tools used will include: observation, anecdotal records, rubrics, in-class presentations and projects.
Core French outcomes are introduced in Grade Four and are developed through the end of Six. Themes are only tools by which the communication skills can be developed and blending of units/themes often happens, especially in combined classes. Students input regarding themes is welcome.
* Active listening and oral practice are vital components of our daily class work; therefore please encourage your child to take risks. It is OK to make mistakes and participation is key!!!
